About Wind Band Association

Who are we?

The Wind Band Association (WBA) is an energetic organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for adult amateur and professional wind band players of all standards, to make music with other like-minded musicians from acrossthe UK.

We do this through various events, including an annual WBA Festival weekend, various one-day music-making sessions (Big Blows) and workshops.

Set up informally in 1999, the Association was formalised in 2010 with a constitution and an election of committee members consisting of:

Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Regional Representatives.

Our Aims

To establish a UK community of amateur and professional Wind Bands, Concert Bands and Community Bands, supporting them in advancing their musical traditions, both as a community and in their local area.

The WBA seeks to engender, through the medium of wind band music, high standards of performance, the commissioning and advancement of music from UK composers and arrangers, presentation of master-classes and concert presentations and community engagement.

Activities

The Association presents an Annual Wind Band Festival over three days with professional conductors directing the rehearsals and performances for the participants. They provide advice on musical standards; performance styles; repertoire; and individual rehearsal techniques.

The festivals also premiere new works by UK composers. The Festival typically takes place in October alternating locations across the breadth of the UK. Festivals have grown in popularity over the years with many returning year after year. Some instruments do go over-capacity so make sure you book early!

The WBA also presents and supports numerous other Wind Band activities throughout the year across the UK. These include “Big Blows”, conducting workshops and one-day repertoire sessions.
